Monday Thoughts: October Mixtape

Well, I’ve been bad at posting recently.  I’ve been pretty busy and there have been some work related things keeping me preoccupied as well.  Not to mention the culmination of Ultimate in Sarasota 2 weekends ago.  Needless to say things have been busy.  Now that fall is rolling around, I’ll have more time for posting and maintenance of the site.  So look for some new articles and new features coming around soon.

On that fall note, I have to tell you about something that Mr. Lewis introduced me to:  The mixtape club.  Throughout college, I was not in the mixtape scene.  Even in high school, the mixes I made were few and far between.  There has been a resurgence of mixtapes in my life though.  Steph absolutely loves them.  I’ve never seen someone so prolific at producing such a mass quantity of quality mixtapes.  Peter’s club has brought me a disc per month (save one) and it’s been awesome.  To see people’s choices and range of listening is quite fun.  It’s been a joy to get lots of new music and I’m excited for new mixes and new additions to the club (yay Steph!)

Well, with that little precursor, I wanted to share my October mix with you.  Some thought went into it, but more than anything it was just some great songs that I’ve been listening to recently.  Next time, there’s going to be a theme.  Some were based on my general “feeling” of Fall.  Many songs induce feelings of seasons to me and this mix had some of that.  Namely, Interpol has always made me think of Fall.  Not sure why, but I think it might be the moody voice and my discovery of these guys on a chilly fall night back in school.

Interpol-Obstacle 1

As much as I went for “Fall” music, like I said before, I usually went with some stuff that I’ve just been listening to and enjoying greatly.  Mumford and Sons was a hypem discovery and everything I’ve heard from them so far has been outstanding.  The full album has just become available in the US and it definitely seems worth a listen or two.  UK folk at it’s best.

Mumford and Sons-Little Lion Man

Finally, I tossed in one of my favorite and what I’m sure Rob Gordon would have either applauded for cleverness or mocked me endlessly for ending the mix in such a cheesy factor.  Either way, I thought it was a fun and good way to end the mix.  Plus, Cake can put anyone in a good mood.

Cake-End of the Movie
