This week, I’m returning for round two and featuring artists whose first name starts with the letter J.  Arbitrary? Slightly.  But when staring at a wealth of material, it’s tough to pick out songs to highlight.  The letter J just so happened to become my escape hatch while compiling this post.  Once I decided on J, I had to whittle the selections down even further.  I ended up with three songs that go from good to great like a staircase.  Check them out.

I love covers.  They don’t always live up to the predecessor, but they are great <snaps fingers repeatedly> conversation stimulaters!  Whether its Hendrix charging Dylan’s “All Along the Watchtower” with a fierce charge of electricity or Ben Folds slyly ironic take on “Champagne Supernova,” covers leave the listener with something to think about.  Today, I’ve included just a few that I adore.

Wonderful Wednesday: The Open Road

Though it was a bit selfish, I took a road trip across the southwestern expanses of America instead of going home for Christmas.

And we sailed on into the mystic...

Around 3,500 miles were churned up over an eight day period.  From dive bars in Redondo Beach to dirt roads leading to an illusive “Hole in the Wall” in the Mojave Desert to sledding down snow covered sand dunes in New Mexico, miles were covered and immense levels of fun were had.  This portion of Wonderful Wednesday is a salute to these adventures, a salute to our December excursions in the west.  It is a salute to Manifest Destiny.

That is to say, the games folks really seem to care about.  Sure, the Christmas bowl season is great and all, but they are really watched because nothing else is on television.  The good programs are all on break and you don’t want to re-watch that damned BB gun movie, so sure you flip over to see the Meineke Car Care Bowl.  The same can’t be said for the January bowls.  Whether it’s the historic Rose Bowl or the fabled Cotton, these games beckon viewers by simply existing.
